video device flushing

Hi,

when switching the DVB card to another channel, the video device I read
from still delivers some PVA packets from the old channel before
delivering new data. Is there any way of flushing the video device? I
thought of switching to PIDs that do not exist, and then reading from
the device until there is no data any more after a timeout, but I think
this is not an elegant method. Are there any other solutions?
