[linux-dvb] kfir LinuxTV MPEG2 Encoder board - image quality.

Hi,

according to various sources, MPEG video image quality
can vary dramatically depending on the quality of the
encoder. For example, see
    http://heroinewarrior.com/mpeg2movie.html

Also, according to my own experience, this is very true.
For example, I have tried the windoze PowerVCR, which
is a real time software encoder that creates an extremely
poor quality. I have also tried SGI's dmconvert, which
is extremely slow and somewhat buggy when delaing with
large input files, but creates MPEG-1 VCDs at very low
bitrates that I cannot distinguish from DVDs on my beamer.

So my question is: how do people rate the image quality
created by the kfir LinuxTV MPEG2 Encoder board? Is it
really good even at low bitrates? Is there even an objective
benchmark that compares the encoding quality of a standard
video sequence between various encoders?

Thanks for any info.

Carsten.
