Each source have been terminated with a 75 ohm resistor at the sink.
Most of all TV-sets have built in resistor of about 68-75 ohm and if you
use an additional resistor in your SCART-cable it results in a reduced
videolevel of about 66% = 0,46V. This MAY be the reason for your darker
picturequality. For a simple check, please plug in the connector in your
"old fashioned" VCR an view the result. 
If its better the failure might be a double termination, because the VCR
have an "Automatic Gain Control" circuit to elminate the loss of cable.
If not, its recommendet to mesure the level of Video(700mV) and
Sync(300mV) with a scope.
