Sorry for the follow up, but typically after committing my thoughts to
print, something else seems to have been causing my problems.

It's still raining here but I've had no problems since my earlier posting.

Before posting I was running alevt on an analogue card on the same box.
Since that time it's not been loaded, so looks like an alevt problem
rather than dvb.
