[linux-dvb] mplayer divx rendering

Hi. I'm trying the mplayer support to see divx through the dvb card.

I use an Athlon 2000+ with kt400 motherboard, and I tried two different DVB boards. 1GB ram, ultradma hard disk, etc.

I've got problems:

I start mplayer directly from command line, just to be sure it's not a vdr or mplayer plugin's fault.

The audio and video are very 'choppy', especially in scenes with lots of movement, where it's really impossible to watch the film.

I can see two cpu hungry processes:

40%cpu mplayer
30%cpu kdvb-fe

I've tried many versions of kernel(2.4.[18-20(pre-empt)]), DVB drivers(newstruct), mplayer(rc3-cvs), different divx (rocky[1-5], star trek tng etc)

mpeg2s - dvds replay fine, but while mplayer has 2% cpu power, that kdvb-fe process is fixed to 30%.

Sometimes I can read "buffer empty" on the console, not sure wheer that message comes from, because it can apper on top's screen or mplayer one.

I tried mplayer on my vdr machine, which is a K6@350MHz: when I replay a DVD, there is NO k-something process that takes cpu power, only mplayer. That motherboard has a SIS chipset. I didn't try a divx decoding on this machine for obvious reasons.

Any suggestions?

thank you
bye
