What are some of the jumping-off points for commercial tools?
I'd really like to see not just DVB info, but info on any received satellite
signal...
You can find 'dvbtraffic' source (posted here), that's cca 100 lines
of source that finds all PIDs that the stream consists of and also
prints traffic of each PID in the stream.
I think it's most useable freeware application to start with
