yes, I did, it does not make any difference
(except for slower startup until it caches the data)

yes, but only after christmas (I'll try all sort of ts, pes, and ps
streams).
After all, it is possible that the effect is just visual, because xine
drops frames more intelligently (mplayer runs with -framedrop,
with -hardframedrop it segfaults after few seconds of playing)

that was not mplayer related - the card (or perhaps PCI bus) cannot keep the
pace, the saved stream is corrupt and does not play neither with xine
nor with mplayer
