Oh - so it was randomly failing to set cam=1 now and then? Hum, could you try
reading it 10 times with a small delay between each, ORring the results
together, and using that as the value for cam? None of my CAMs have this
problem so I can't test here.

Can you send me your compiled dvb-core module so I can disassemble it?
