I don't know where you get your monitors from, but I get them used from
schools. I've gotten a 1541 for free.

You have never seen RGB, have you?

Well over 99% of all TVs with a Scart connector have an RGB input. RGB
is what TV-sets have internally so it's easy for manufacturers to add
it. I think in france manufacturers were even forced by law to do so.

In a "normal" situation (terrestrial transmission, etc) you have the
hight frequencies damped by other devices, this results in a blurry
image. Now some manufacturers simply amplify those hight frequencies,
resulting in a sharper image in those sitations and bright or dark
borders in our case. A longer cable now damps the hight frequencies,
too, so the picture might be overall better.
