when teaching lircd its keys via irrecord, just type something like

...
(irrecord asks: name for the next button)
Down
(press "DOWN" button)
(irrecord says: ok)

(irrecord asks: name for the next button)
Down
(press "PAUSE" button)
(irrecord says: ok)
...

If your lircd.conf is pre-configured you could just change the name of
the PAUSE entry to "Down", too. The result will be two entries for
"Down".
