I've thought about modding the runvdr script. I use modules.conf to load
the driver so I have to use rmmod -a to unload them. The problem is that
sometimes when I unload the drivers I get a kernel Oops. Usually "Tried to
kill Init". This usually happens if I unload the driver just after I quit
vdr and the kdvb process is still running.

Yes I have that also. Maybe I'll try the new firmware and see if that helps..
