There's a mailing list mentioned on <http://www.lirc.org/>, and it even
has an archive. And there is a FAQ entry on <http://www.lirc.org/faq.html>.

In most cases you don't need to patch the kernel anymore. Just grab the
CVS version of LIRC from <http://www.lirc.org/cvs.html>. If you have
been using the flameeyes patches, be aware that /dev/lirc was a
directory with these patches, whereas with offical LIRC it's the
character device itsself (so "rm -Rf /dev/lirc; mknod /dev/lirc c 61 0").
