That's strange. Have you tried the open source 
radeon driver? The 128MB PCI Express x16 ATI 
Radeon X800 SE works OK here with radeon driver
for dual head and 1920x1080 on both.

I would have thought the X800 XL 256 would be better
than the X800 SE.
