No idea why it happens, but I started to get similar oops problem
with vanilla kernel.org kernels 2.6.16.21 and 2.6.17.1 during last days
with head version of dvb drivers.. My hardware is different, Terratec
Cinergy 1200 dvb-c (w/ ci&cam), and oops messages are also a bit
different. Before I started to see these the combination of 2.6.16.x
kernels and hg head drivers were working really well on my Debian
unstable. Unfortunately I haven't gotten the drivers to work with 2.6.17
rcs & final 2.6.17.1 at all, just oopses during module loading or player
starting.

Here's the oops message with 2.6.16.20 (kernel tainted though)..

Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000000 RIP:

Oops messages are same/really similar on both 2.6.17.1 and 2.6.16 .
