Dektec DTA-140 works fine on linux. There is a driver (source code) on the
webpage for both 2.4 and 2.6 and a simple recorder and player.

One could use it for example like this:
DtRecord /dev/stdout | do_stuff | DtPlay /dev/stdin -r bitrate
