I'm sorry for all the noise.... I made another mistake in my 
instructions above.... There is no "hg merge" command.  What I meant was 
"hg update -m" .... So, one more time:

hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb
cd v4l-dvb
hg pull http://linuxtv.org/hg/~mkrufky/pending
hg update -m
make
make install
