I have a similar problem in that the tda9887 is not detected first time 
round.  But if I run rmmod tuner && modprobe tuner then it is detected 
2nd, 3rd, 4th, ....  time I load the tuner module.

When I use arecord -D hw:1,0 -c2 -r 48000 -f S16_LE -t wav |aplay -D 
hw:0,0 - I get only static noise (as if the channel isn't tuned in 
correctly) even though I have a picture.  This is when using analog TV.

Below is my dmesg and some errors (I think) or maybe debugging info from 
  when I try to play the audio.

I'm using Steve Toths dvb tree from http://linuxtv.org/hg/~stoth/hvr3000

I'd really like to get audio working properly on this card if someone 
can offer any advice :-)
