[linux-dvb] webcam and v4l-dvb related modules

I've seen other posts of this problem, but I haven't seen any reasonable
attempts to answer or resolve it. After building and installing
v4l-dvd-kernel many other modules that require v4l-related modules are
broken. I see that you implement your own videodev and such and I can
only assume that is were the problem lies. I own two webcams both of
which are rendered useless after intalling v4l-dvb. When trying to load
either module I get the following error:

~$ sudo modprobe quickcam
FATAL: Error inserting quickcam
(/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/misc/quickcam.ko): Unknown symbol in
module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

examining the dmesg output shows the following:

[17181665.160000] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[17181665.196000] quickcam: disagrees about version of symbol
video_devdata
[17181665.196000] quickcam: Unknown symbol video_devdata
[17181665.196000] quickcam: disagrees about version of symbol
video_unregister_device
[17181665.196000] quickcam: Unknown symbol video_unregister_device
[17181665.196000] quickcam: disagrees about version of symbol
video_register_device
[17181665.196000] quickcam: Unknown symbol video_register_device

At first glance one would assume that this arose from compilation under
a different kernel, but that is not the case. I am aware that this is a
known issue, but I have a couple of questions:

1. Is it currently being addressed?
2. Is it known as to where this problem might be coming from?

Cheers,
Brandon Drummond
