I've recently bought a couple of MSI Mega Sky 580s (identified as MSI
Mega Sky 55801) but I can't get them to scan or tune.
I've pulled the latest version of the v4l-dvb repository, compiled and
installed without any problems. On plugging the stick in I get the
following (promising) dmesg output:
usb 5-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
usb 5-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
input: PC-DTV Receiver PC-DTV Receiver as /class/input/input6
input: USB HID v1.01 Keyboard [PC-DTV Receiver PC-DTV Receiver] on
usb-0000:00:1d.7-5
dvb-usb: found a 'MSI Mega Sky 55801 DVB-T USB2.0' in warm state.
dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the
software demuxer.
DVB: registering new adapter (MSI Mega Sky 55801 DVB-T USB2.0)
DVB: registering frontend 0 (Zarlink ZL10353 DVB-T)...
Quantek QT1010 successfully identified.
dvb-usb: MSI Mega Sky 55801 DVB-T USB2.0 successfully initialized
and connected.
usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_gl861
I note that this device is always reported as being in a 'warm state',
I assume this means that no firmware is required.
However when attempting to scan I just get:
[root at localhost]# scandvb /usr/share/dvb-apps/dvb-t/uk-Mendip > channels.conf
scanning /usr/share/dvb-apps/dvb-t/uk-Mendip
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'

Done.
Also, if I try to tune using a channels.conf file generated by a
(working) CinergyT2 in the same system I just get:
[root at localhost]# tzap -a 0 "BBC ONE"
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
tuning to 778166670 Hz
