[linux-dvb] What is the MAC of a DVB card?

I've always wanted to ask, but always forgotten...
I've got a Hauppauge WinTV NOVA T USB2 and it has a MAC address.
What is it useful for? Was it an attempt to access the card over the network?
Just curiosity.
