More details: the image is squashed except when it is at 100% (the window 
or the zoom factor). I can not shrink it to 50% and keep the correct ratio
in either case. When the window is at 100% I can not zoom to 50% at all.

I am guessing that this may be a xine issue more than a VDR one?
