I have tested your v5 patch before and it worked great.

Option 1 has no effect at all here on my machine, but option 2 writes 
the recordings continuously over NFS to my server.
Thank you very much for this nice patch.

BTW: Ever since I changed from kernel 2.4 to 2.6 I had this problems of 
burst writing... even with versions before 1.3.25.
