The ivtv devices feature an on-board hardware MPEG2 encoder; the Conexant CX2341x. Notable devices within this category are the Hauppuage PVR-150, 250, 350, and 500 cards.

The ivtv Project maintains its own wiki; upon which you will find a full list of the devices currently supported by the ivtv driver framework, as well as specific driver information and release downloads.

Note that the ivtv code has now been merged into LinuxTV's v4l-dvb driver tree. It was submitted for inclusion in the Linux 2.6.21 kernel on 1 March 2007, but acceptance was delayed. However, with the release of the 2.6.22 kernel (July 8th 2007), ivtv code is now natively available in mainstream.
