mpmc | crope: I have two tuners using the Silicon Labs chipset (one reports as Silicon Labs Si2168-A30 the other Silicon Labs Si2168-B40) now here's the interesting thing the B40 moans about missing firmware (dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw) if I load this BOTH tuners fail to tune, without it both tuners work perfectly (using the older dvb-demod-si2168-a30-01.fw). Seems like a weird bug to me! | [13:24] |
....... (idle for 34mn)
crope | mpmc: driver should not load wrong firmware. did you rename it? | [13:58] |
mpmc | crope: Nope. | [13:58] |
crope | without the firmware those chips are hold in a boot loader mode
it should not work without any firmware, at least b40. I dont have a30 at all | [14:00] |
mpmc | crope: Heres a screenshot of both tuners streaming via Tvheadend http://i.imgur.com/0Yl4gGC.png?1 firmware files in /lib/firmware [dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw / dvb-demod-si2168-a20-01.fw / dvb-demod-si2168-a30-01.fw / dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw.bk / dvb-tuner-si2158-a20-01.fw] notice the renamed B40 file :p | [14:05] |
crope | which is version of dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw ?
dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw that one is very old 4.0.4 ripped from original pctv 292e windows driver binary | [14:08] |
mpmc | crope: I got them from the openelec repo :p md5 for dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw is 8dfc2483d90282bbb05817fbbc282376
which is version 4.0.19 apparently.. | [14:09] |
crope | it should be good | [14:10] |
mpmc | Ok, I'll rename it back & see what happens :p | [14:11] |
crope | dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw << that one should not be used - it just says "intall firmware" but download that one as a fallback. | [14:11] |
mpmc | So I have the right files could you link the latest ones? :) | [14:11] |
crope | you should not rename dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw , it is broken. you cannot rename dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw and dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw - those are incompatible with each others
dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw has different format / layout than dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw - if those are renamed then it will fail | [14:12] |
mpmc | crope: I've only renamed the dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw to stop it loading the others are as is. | [14:14] |
crope | dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw should not be used at all, it is there just fallback if correct firmware is missing in order to avoid regression | [14:14] |
mpmc | OK I've removed them all now :)
crope: I'm guessing http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmware/Si2168/ has all the latest firmwares ? :) | [14:14] |
crope | I think it is 4.0.19, there is likely newer somewhere else. I havent looked so carefully as Olli has extracted those
it is 4.0.11 - not newest at all | [14:18] |
mpmc | crope: B40 firmware from your site is apparently firmware version: 4.0.4. | [14:23] |
crope_ | mpmc: look that directory and see there is 2 firmwares http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmware/Si2168/Si2168-B40/
4.0.4 and 4.0.11 | [14:26] |
mpmc | crope_: I've found version 4.0.19 here https://github.com/OpenELEC/dvb-firmware/blob/master/firmware/dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw :)
crope_: OK replaced with 4.0.19 and the Si tuner on the DVBSky is working perfect but the mygica isn't at all :( No complaining about missing firmware for either.. | [14:29] |
crope_ | there seems to be a lot of reports it is broken | [14:34] |
mpmc | :s both worked fine before using the old firmware.. | [14:34] |
crope_ | which firmware mygica reports? | [14:35] |
mpmc | crope: firmware loaded for B40 (mygica) is 4.0.19. I sent you a dmesg not sure if you received it :p | [14:37] |
crope | yep I saw, but there was 2 si2168 versions and I didnt know if mygica is that a30 or b40 | [14:38] |
mpmc | The a30 is the one from the DVBSky T9580 :) | [14:38] |
crope | I understand now | [14:39] |
mpmc | that one is working.
Sorry, it's confusing :p | [14:39] |
crope | one thing which comes to my mind is that RF strenght statistics I added recently to si2157 driver
if it broke things | [14:39] |
mpmc | crope: Now that one has stopped working! must have uploaded the firmware again! | [14:40] |
crope | when it stopped working? | [14:41] |
mpmc | Just a moment a go, I was streaming a mux.. | [14:42] |
crope | can you scan all muxes using w_scan or dvbv5-scan | [14:48] |
mpmc | crope: Ok it gets even weirder, just rebooted and guess what.. both are now working.. :s
Now lets see if either of them dies :p | [14:50] |
.... (idle for 16mn) | ||
crope: Something really weird is going on here.. I rebooted once more and the stick (mygica is dead again) WTF.
getting a w_scan result. | [15:07]
crope | replug stick and do scan
it could be that after the reset device (chips inside device) are some warm state whilst driver thinks it is cold | [15:09] |
mpmc | crope: w-scan is running fine..
However it did fail the first time but worked after a second replug. crope: Large w_scan result here: http://sprunge.us/FaaB And now another scan and.. nothing.. | [15:22] |
crope | does dvbsky work better? | [15:30] |
mpmc | crope: I'll have a look :p
crope: Yep that one is still working :) It has found all muxes available, even found some from a different transmitter that are too weak to receive correctly. | [15:31] |
