[12:32]

VDRhappy easter. I tried VDR instead of tvheadend. It have problems with some german television when they switch channel. Dont know how to explain that better.
the channel is switching itself from global to local broadcast. The frequency stay same. tvheadend just loose less then a second. VDR totaly freeze. i have to change then to an other channel and change back again

paa question about w_scan: i used the -M option (MPLayer output), but all the dvb-s2 channels are missing (i could see them in the output)
any idea why?
should i use a newer version of w_scan?
[18:05]
VDRpa: just always use most recent version
pa: its the same since many years: http://wirbel.htpc-forum.de/w_scan/w_scan-20141122.tar.bz2
[18:06]
paah thanks
im using the one in 14.04
maybe it's older than that..
VDR, any xperience with skystar S2?
[18:09]
VDRpa: yes: https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/TechniSat_SkyStar_S2
pa: forget it completely on older ubuntu versions. it first works on 16.04 propperly
[18:12]
paVDR, i use the liplianin patched media-build
it works quite ok
however, there's one transponder i do not manage to tune
and i don't understand why
i have all the parameters of the program i want to tune
but i don't know how to use them
kaffeine won't let me add a new channel, only scan
and every other player has undocumented channel.conf format that i cant push it by hand..
[18:15]
VDRits the old driver. its known problem. use kernel 4.3 or newer. [18:16]
paVDR, do you have something pointed at Hotbird? S13E0? [18:16]
VDRpa: you just have to install the vdr firmware package and thats all. the card is fully supported out of the box [18:16]
pai see.. well thanks [18:17]
VDRpa: try out: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/xenial-desktop-amd64.iso [18:17]
paheh, i actually tried 16.04.. but it doesn't work at all xD
from cd though
anyway, it's weird because S2 12437 for example works well, kaffeine finds all channels and even PressTV HD can be decoded without issues
[18:18]
VDRpa: you can also dd this image to a usb drive and try that out: http://releases.openelec.tv/OpenELEC-Generic.x86_64-6.95.1.img.gz [18:19]
pabut 12475.5 which is the one i need seems blank
ProgDVB finds channels there, but it seems that the windows drivers have issues with S2 stuff
[18:19]
VDRpa: thats a known problem with older kernels and installed driver. use recent kernel with build in driver. [18:20]
paVDR, aha..
known problem, as in?
not finding channels?
[18:20]
VDRpa: yes, also mixing up muxes by mistake [18:20]
paaha...
ouch..
well, will try xenial as soon as i get it booting from USB..
thanks for the tips
but in any case
do you know whether for example mplayer can tune dvb-s2?
[18:21]
VDRpa: i never tried that. probably yes. first try out vlc. if that works, then mplayer should also work [18:29]
pa: hi paoletto :P
you could just answer your own post by replying to Teddy73 that you also find out that its working now out of the box ;)
[18:41]
AuggieCan Linux be booted natively from a VHD? [18:46]
VDRAuggie: you have to look for GRUB VHD support
Auggie: but what you can simply run XEN for virtualization or use LVM for virtual partitions. Never heard of "VHD".
[18:51]
AuggieI'm not trying to run the installtion in a VM. I want to boot natively from a VHD without a hypervisor, just as I can Windows. [19:00]
paVDR, you mean on the german forum?
well i wrote that it works fine after installing media-build with s2-liplianin patch
fine except that i can't tune the only transponder i want xD
[19:06]
.... (idle for 15mn)
VDRpa: why didnt you try quickly 16.04 and report? [19:22]
pai'm trying now
i tried before
but it didnt work
[19:22]
VDRinstall firmware file and run w_scan to test quickly the functionality [19:22]
panow i just got the beta2
VDR: to get it to work i just have to install the package vdr_firmware or something?
[19:22]
VDRput the firmware file on same place like before. thats all
you can also run openelec 7.0. that also works out of the box with already preinstalled VDR and firmwarefile
[19:23]
pawell before i installed a .deb with the firmware
so i didnt actually put anything anywhere
a cx24120-dkms_3.13_all.deb
[19:25]
VDRpa: sudo su && cd /lib/firmware && wget https://github.com/OpenELEC/dvb-firmware/blob/master/firmware/dvb-fe-cx24120-1.20.58.2.fw?raw=true && chmod 777 dvb-fe-cx24120-1.20.58.2.fw && reboot [19:31]
paah thanks! then i can reboot and try hoping it works out of the box :-) [19:32]
VDRshould work
please contact later then the ubuntu developer and tell them to add the firmware file i linked to the package here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/all/linux-firmware-nonfree/filelist
[19:33]
.......................... (idle for 2h5mn)
paso VDR is gone
but actually the driver now in the kernel works even worse
cant find basically anything S2
and i found the same problem in an italian forum
but i sadly lost the link
