drmpegI've built the drivers from the latest git repo, and I'm having trouble with the em28xx_dvb driver.
Getting the many messages like this "em28xx_dvb: disagrees about version of symbol dvb_dmxdev_init"
This is on Ubuntu 16.04 with the 4.4.0-45-generic #66 kernel.
Anyone know what's going on?
[05:40]

dongswell.
do you want the long story or the short one
lunix driver API changes pretty much daily
after UAPI split you can no longer get same kernel version headers as the drivers
so basically compiling kernel drivers out of tree has been fucked since something late 2.6/ early whatever is next version
also are you THE drmpeg like xport and stuff
or just a poser
[06:49]
drmpegI'm the one. [06:50]
dongsdang. much props.
but yeah uh... is there any particular reason you want out of tree lunixtv stuff instead of whatever is in the kernel?
because that's probably a lot easier to build.
[06:50]
drmpegI'm trying to do IP over DVB.
I have a DVB-T2 transmitter connected to a DVB-T2 USB stick.
The PCTV 292e
So I'm sending what I think are IP packets encapsulated in an MPEG-2 Transport Stream.
But of course, I'm not seeing my packets.
[06:55]
dongsipdvb is just stuff encapsulated and sent over single PID right [06:58]
drmpegYes. [06:58]
dongsbut why would this involve building a new driver [06:59]
drmpegI wanted to put some debug printf's in the dvb-core kernel module. [06:59]
dongscant you just use whatever is lunix equivalent of tsreader and check the received data?
do it on the one in your ubuntu kernel then
i presume you've tried the stuff @ https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain,_Build_and_Install_V4L-DVB_Device_Drivers and failed?
[06:59]
drmpegYes. [07:01]
dongsdid you remove your old ubuntu modules and depmod -a?
the stuff near the bottom of that page
'conflicting modules' etc.
[07:02]
drmpegLemme look. [07:02]
dongsmissing symbol/version shit sounds like youre loading ex. newly compiled dvbcore and ubuntu version of the usb stick driver.
whcih of course wont work.
[07:03]
drmpegI did a depmod, but not with -a.
I don't see any other modules in /lib/modules/4.4.0-45-generic/kernel/drivers/media than the ones I built.
[07:05]
dongsand when you modprobe that usb stick one it still fails with missing symbols? [07:09]
drmpegLemme try. [07:11]
dongsanyway, rm evertything under kernel/drivers/media , make install from the dvb git tree, reboot to make sure no old modules are loaded, and you should be ok
and you better hope ubuntu doens't compile v4l stuff in and has it as modules
if its in the kernel you arent gonna be able to build it separately
but i guess you knew that.
[07:12]
drmpegOkay. Thanx for the help. [07:15]
............ (idle for 58mn)
Rebuilding didn't help. :( However, copying all the Ubuntu drivers back into /lib/modules/4.4.0-45-generic/kernel/drivers/media does work, so at least I'm back on the air. [08:13]
....... (idle for 32mn)
dongshm.
thats lunix for you
i suggest booting to windows and just using tsreader
