mchehab | tjader: rtl2832 doesn't really support ISDB-T
what it happens is that there's a 1-seg userspace code shipped with some rtl2832 devices that decodes it on userspace using rtl2832 as a SDR (Software Digital Radio) Linux supports SDR with rtl2832, but one need to write an ISDB-T 1seg decoder at gnuradio (or on some other software) rtl2832 doesn't take enough samples for full-seg decoding
it seems that someone wrote it so, if you properly install gnuradio and gr-isdbt, you could be able to receive isdb-t data it should be noticed that standard DVB apps won't work with SDR. You'll need to stick with gnuradio | [01:44]

tjader | mchehab: thanks I'll try that, but I think the device is faulty anyway
I tried it on Windows with SDR# and couldn't find any signal anywhere Not even noise | [12:17]
mchehab: so what the rtl2832 driver in dvb-frontends does is implement the SDR decoder for DVB-T? | [12:22]
....... (idle for 31mn)
mchehab | sorry, didn't understand your question
tjader: ^ the rtl2832 implements whatever the hardware supports all of them supports dvb-t some has an additional hardware decoder I don't know any rtl2832 with a hardware ISDB decoder though | [12:53]
tjader | So the USB dongle has a generic SDR and a DVB-T decoder? | [12:55]
mchehab | yes - although I don't remember if it is possible to use SDR on all rtl2832 devices | [12:56]
tjader | BTW, I just managed to tune a FM station using rtl_fm, so it seems the dongle works after all
Now I'm trying to get gr-isdbt to work | [12:56]
mchehab | if you're getting FM, it works and SDR also works | [12:56]
tjader | Yeah
Now I have to understand how gnuradio and gr-isdbt work | [12:56]
mchehab | I never tried myself gr-isdbt, so if you need help, I suspect you should seek for it with gnuradio people
if you manage to make it work, please add some documentation about that at linuxtv Wiki | [12:57]

tjader | mchehab: do you know any USB dongle that works with ISDB-T with the regular dvb tools and is not too hard to find?
With this one even on Windows I can only get 1seg with lots of skipping | [18:41]
.................... (idle for 1h37mn)
mchehab | as I said, it does decoding in software
with eats a lot of CPU also, the sampling rate only allows 1-seg (that's a device's limitation) there are some supported ISDB-T usb dongles, but they're becoming hard to find those days the better ones come with Dibcom chipsets (dib0700 and dib80xx)... the ones with Siano are also good sms27xx there are some devices with mb86a20s but, as the chipset was discontinued, those are harder to find I don't get any new ISDB-T devices for a while | [20:19]
tjader | Thanks
I'll try to find a better one tonight | [20:25] |
