WhoWhatWhen
mchehabhi all [11:58]
hverkuilhi [11:58]
syounghi all [12:01]
mchehablet's start the meeting...
from my side, I created a new status ("driver maintainer") and changed venus and hauppauge-related stuff (handled by brad) to it
[12:03]
hverkuilnice [12:04]
mchehabI also handled all pending PRs
that's a temporary solution while we don't have a way to delegate patches to sub-maintainers
s/sub-maintainers/driver maintainers/
we have now just 32 undelegated patches
almost all from this month
the only older patch is this one:
https://patchwork.linuxtv.org/patch/56465/
this one is a behavior change, so we should look into it carefully
[12:04]
hverkuilmchehab: it would be great if you can review https://patchwork.linuxtv.org/patch/56798 for those PCI drivers you maintain. [12:07]
mchehabnot sure who can review it. sailus? pinchartl?
hverkuil: I'll take a look
cx88 is a bit weird, as it works with sub-interfaces
[12:07]
hverkuilI'm preparing a similar series where vidioc_enum_fmt is no longer filling in the description field, leaving it to the core instead to ensure consistent names. [12:09]
mchehabhverkuil: please notice that I won't be able to test those PCI devices [12:09]
hverkuilmchehab: if you have concerns about one or more of those devices then let me know. I can try to test next week. [12:10]
mchehabi would recommend testing cx88 [12:11]
hverkuilI might test ivtv myself: the old code looked flaky to me if you have an ivtv board with saa7114. But I don't know if I have one of those... [12:11]
mchehabthe driver probe logic there is a little weird
if you have a blackbird board, you would be able to test everything
[12:11]
hverkuilI have one of those.
sailus: when you read this, can you look at the remaining sparse warnings? You said you'd make a patch to fix those, and it would be nice to have that merged.
I don't have anything else of importance in the pipeline.
[12:12]
mchehabI didn't receive any news yet from LPC/KS comittee with regards to Lisbon meting [12:15]
hverkuilThe stateful encoder/decoder tests are now merged in v4l-utils master, so that should help going forward. [12:15]
mchehabmaybe we could try to seek for an alternative space there [12:15]
hverkuilNo stateless decoder tests yet.
Lisbon is a nice city :-) I'm happy to have a good excuse to go there.
[12:16]
mchehabyeah, me too
it is the shortest trip from Brazil
among all places in EU and US
[12:17]
hverkuilIf we have to rent a space for a day (or perhaps two? It would hurt to use the opportunity to start brainstorming about the new proposed streaming and fmt ioctls), then I can probably get Cisco to sponsor at least part of the costs. [12:18]
mchehabas a plus, they speak Portuguese [12:18]
hverkuilDoesn't help me :-) [12:18]
mchehabthis time, I don't think Samsung will be able to sponsor
do you know if Google has some facilities there? Perhaps our developers there could help getting an space if they have something
[12:19]
hverkuilIf it is in a place with some bars/restaurants in the neighborhood (they were everywhere last time I was in Lisbon), then we don't need sponsoring for drinks.
You mean Cisco?
[12:21]
mchehabwell, if Cisco has, that could help too
Google seems to have a place there... Perhaps tfiga could help us finding an space
I bet that there are lots of bars//restaurants closeby
but doing a long meeting on such environments is probably not to comfortable
[12:22]
hverkuilThere are companies that rent out office space for one or two days, similar to what hotels do. I remember that pinchartl arranged that one time in Brussels.
If you can find something like that in Lisbon in a decent location, then that would be an option.
[12:24]
mchehabyeah, that would work.
anyway, just sent an email to Tomasz/Alexandre, in order to check if Google might help us on that
[12:26]
hverkuilOr perhaps rent a room from a hotel. No idea how much they charge. [12:27]
mchehabit's a long shot, but it would make easier [12:27]
hverkuil(there is a sales Cisco office, but it is on the far outskirts of Lisbon in some office park. Quite close to the Samsung office there, actually) [12:28]
mchehabif we do the meeting before or after KS/LPC days, it can be on a separate location [12:29]
hverkuilI'm still not sure if I am actually going to attend LPC or just go for the media summit. [12:31]
mchehabThere is a site with helps finding rent locations:
https://pt.hotelplanner.com/Search/Meeting-Space.htm?maxrows=10&startrow=1&zoom=5&sortby=Distance&radius=120&City=lisboa&latitude=&longitude=&StreetNumber=&InDate=09%2F12%2F2019&InDate_disp=12%2F09%2F2019&Duration=1&RoomType=1&NumPeople=18&TimeFrame=2&NumRooms=0&RoomSize=20&WidthMetric=Meters&HotelName=&Rating=&PriceMin=1&PriceMax=999999&ViewType=List
but it doesn't show the prices
hmm... it showed for one site
Ramada by Wyndham Lisbon
€100,00 for an entire day
nah, that's nt the price
A room for 40 people on round tables costs 250 euros
I suspect that this is just the price for the room
we'll need to add other services (wifi, projector, white board, mic)
[12:32]
hverkuilIf we organize this outside the main LPC, then I doubt we'll have many people. In any case, 250 would be fine.
Ah, yes.
Personally I'd rather pay a bit more for a nice location (within reason, of course).
[12:35]
mchehabwell, there are some locations on some resorts near the beach in Cascais :-p
(with is a nearby city)
to be clear: I'm just joking about that :-)
[12:38]
hverkuilThank heavens :-) [12:39]
mchehabhmm... Cascais is not that far... 30 mins from Lisbon downtown
didn't know that... I should try schedule a trip to it this time
[12:44]
hverkuilI'm assuming you'll attend the kernel maintainer summit as well? [12:45]
mchehabI guess I won't attend this time, but who knows? [12:45]
hverkuilSo if we organize something outside the LPC/KMS then it would be Friday, right?
Sep 13
[12:45]
mchehabyeah, Sept 13 would be perfect [12:47]
hverkuilI'll tentatively schedule around that date. [12:48]
mchehabI'll check if LF can help us reserve a room at the hotel on Sept, 13
and seek for other alternatives
it sounds that renting a room won't be too expensive, if that 250 euros is a typical price over there
mchehab never rent a room - so I've no idea about how it costs
if the room itself is 250 euros, I suspect we would need ~750-1000 euros for the room + wifi + whiteboard + projector + snacks
[12:49]
hverkuilwifi and snacks aren't really necessary. wifi is probably free anyway, snacks/drinks we can arrange ourselves.
whiteboard and projector are the main issue.
If necessary I can set up a wifi hotspot on my phone. As long as nobody is going to clone the kernel git repo that should be fine :-)
[12:52]
mchehab:-D [12:54]
sailusHello!
Apologies for being around only now.
[12:54]
mchehabone possibility would be to charge for participation... I would prefer avoiding it, though [12:55]
sailusRegarding a meeting in Lisbon, I might be able to attend, but I'd need to know ASAP.
hverkuil: Which sparse warnings did you refer to?
I have a patchset for ImgU sparse warnings fixes but I may not have sent a pull request on the set yet.
[12:55]
hverkuilsailus: https://hverkuil.home.xs4all.nl/logs/Wednesday.log
smatch warnings, not sparse. Sorry.
[12:57]
sailushverkuil: Ah, those. I think I sent the patches but I definitely have not sent a pull request.
I'll see if I have time today. Probably so.
[12:57]
mchehabnone of those appear when I run smatch here (i386)
but I'm not running smatch the right way
[12:57]
hverkuildidn't see any patches, unless you sent them in the last 24 hours (vger.kernel.org is having problems) [12:58]
mchehabthe right way to run smatch is to build a dictionary and run it twice or three times [12:58]
sailusIt may also be I have not yet sent patches. :-) I can't remember. [12:58]
mchehaband the dict should be re-created once a week
(at least it seems that this is what smatch's author does)
vger stopped working at 23:00 on its local time
(about 6 hours ago)
once it starts sending messages, it should take a while to flush everything
I'll let you know if I rear that vger returned to normal service
[12:59]
sailushverkuil: Sent. [13:04]
mchehabsailus: it could be possible that you may need to re-send after vger returns - but better to wait for several hours after his return, as it currently has ~100k e-mails pending deliver [13:08]
sailusI wonder what kind of hardware it has.
If the problem is in the outgoing queue, there may be more than 100k e-mails in there.
