voxadam: I would like to connect my Logitech C920 USB camera to a computer other than my primary workstation but still be able to use it as if it were directly attached to that workstation. Would USB-over-IP be the best way to accomplish this?
In the event it makes a difference, the machine that I'd like to physically attach the camera to is a wireless access point running OpenWRT.
I believe the C920 includes a hardware h264 encoder so the AP could avoid that heavy lifting. I don't imagine attempting to compress a 1920x1080 video stream in real-time using a 550 MHz MIPS processor would go well.
Also, the AP is connected to the workstation using /wired/ gig ethernet. The workstation and AP are only separated by a single reasonably high-end ethernet switch.
