mchehab: Da_Coynul: it doesn't work this way... sent an e-mail to the ML... people usually don't review patches via IRC
also, it is probably too late for most V4L developers, as most of the active ones are not in US those days
Da_Coynul: mchehab: OK. it was old so I didn't know if I should resurrect an old thread on the mailing list
mchehab: you can either resurrect or start a new one
Da_Coynul: OK, thanks.
mchehab: anytime

BanHammor: Hi! Is there a way to guarantee that vb2_ops->start_streaming() isn't called twice for the same hardware if the m2m_ctx are different?
hverkuil_: BanHammor: do you see it being called twice? It shouldn't.
the m2m framework should check that.
or does it? Let me check.
BanHammor: I haven't found a place where it checks that, hverkuil_
hverkuil_: each instance has its own queues, so each queue has its own start_streaming as well.
There is no 'top-level' start streaming, you'll have to take care of that in the driver.
But most start_streaming implementations for m2m drivers don't do much.
BanHammor: so...i'm supposed to initialize my hardware in device_run() or something?
hverkuil_: what sort of device driver is it? A codec?
BanHammor: it accepts and puts out raw GRAY8 data using only one stream at a time.
so it's not really a codec, hverkuil_
hverkuil_: configuring the hardware is typically done in device_run. Global initialization is more likely done in probe().
BanHammor: I see, thanks.
hverkuil_: If you have to deal with power, then it becomes more complicated, and I wouldn't know that off-hand either.
The best approach generally is to look at existing drivers.
sailus: mchehab: Bom dia!
mchehab: sailus: moikka!
sailus: How do you do?
mchehab: fine. and you?
sailus: Fine, too, thanks!
I'd have a question on the pull request to the smiapp driver I sent recently.
https://patchwork.linuxtv.org/patch/37297/
Could you check that out at some point?
mchehab: I intend to handle pull requests today
sailus: That'd be wonderful. :-)

pinchartl: hverkuil_: would you have time to review "v4l: ctrls: Add deinterlacing mode control" ?
hverkuil_: pinchartl: is there a later patch that actually uses this control?
I don't see it in the v3 patch series...
pinchartl: hverkuil_: I'll send a v4
hverkuil_: Also see my reply to the patch on the ML.
kbingham: hverkuil: pinchartl: Looks like it gets changed in Patch 6
possibly worth squashing the patches...
pinchartl: hverkuil_: thanks
I have to go now, I'll be back a bit later
