stdintI have a memory import problem with v4l
I want to use userptr to mmap the compressed video frame directly
but somebody told me it would making the system more slow, even iommu can't translate a large range of buffer address
I have been suggested to use dmabuf with memcpy

pinchartlsailus: ping [15:22]
hverkuilsailus: what is the status of this patch series: https://patchwork.linuxtv.org/patch/36689/ Is it still waiting for my review?
pinchartl: what's the weather in Santa Fe?

hverkuil: I was just dicussing that series with Shuah this morning
hence my ping for Sakari
I don't remember all the details, it's been too long

hverkuilIt's been too long for me as well. Tomorrow I plan to do more patch review, see if I can make a decent dent in the pile of pending patches.
I didn't do too bad today :-)
[16:44]
pinchartlthere's an interesting discussion at LPC about syscall and ioctl fuzzing
they use the branch and function tracers to see how random ioctls with random values move along the code paths in the kernel, to see what random values are interesting to inject
https://www.linuxplumbersconf.org/2016/ocw/proposals/3561
[16:50]
hverkuilWould be cool (and terrifying at the same time) to let that loose at the media ioctls. [16:52]
pinchartlthat's one of the targets they're looking at, given the large numbers of ioctls we have [16:52]
larscit already found lots of bugs in ALSA
I think they are working just through the kernel one subsystem at a time
[16:53]
pinchartlone of the issues they have is finding out acceptable ranges for ioctl parameters
they would like a machine-parseable documentation of the media ioctls
[16:54]
shuahit would be nice to check it out on media controller ioctls as well
https://github.com/google/syzkaller - where the soucres for this are
[17:00]
awallsmost media ioctl()s are impossible to check thoroughly without a slew of ancient hardware devices
but i suppose covering all those built in laptop webcams would be a great start.
[17:09]
hverkuilvivid has pretty good coverage, actually. [17:10]
