erasmus: I'm trying to use the usb tuner now with this linux distro which is called GalliumOS.
   <br> it's an Acer 720C Chromebook.
   <br> Gallium is basically Ubuntu.
<br> So I went to their site and did what it said.
   <br> and rebooted.
<br> tried Kaffeine which is what I normally use in Linux
<br> didn't even turn the lite on the unit
   <br> I tried antenna-dtv and it doesn't work either
   <br> I installed the firmware
   <br> I added the PPA
<br> installed everything on the Hauppaugh site
<br> not sure why I cannot get it to work.
<br> I need some assistance troubleshooting this.
   <br> termbin.com/2vjs
gnurou: <u>sailus</u>: do you think it will take long to do your rework of request API's patch 1? I am currently stalled on it

   gnurou: mm. ok
<br> I will try to make some progress on porting an actual driver to use the API... maybe see what I can do with the FRAME format and control patches, since we will need to review these for inclusion too
<br> that should be orthogonal with your work, since my understanding is that the UABI will not change

sailus: I looked into the possibilities we have regarding addressing the select issue with drivers and VB2 memops (as well as other related matters).
<br> I think you could do better than we have currently, but it would involve having internal config options such as HAVE_VIDEOBUF2_DMA_SG, to tell videobuf2 can do scatter-gather DMA, as well as another option to actually build that (because a driver needs it).
<br> So the driver would need to depend on this HAVE_* option, and select the corresponding option to add the part of the framework to the build.
<br> I think it'd be feasible but it'd introduce two options in the driver.
<br> It does have the benefit of drivers no longer having to explicitly depend on e.g. HAS_DMA.
<br> s/HAVE/HAS/ in the above text.
   <br> hverkuil, pinchartl: ^
   <br> What do you think?
mchehab: can we get rid of select VB2_foo with that?
<br> or HAS_DMA would be just an alias for HAVE_VIDEOBUF2_DMA_SG?
sailus: No, but the select won't be a problem as the dependency is there.
erasmus: I was looking for some help the other day. I'm still having issues.
<br> does anyone here have a hauppaugh 950Q?
sailus: The dependency needs to contain everything so the select won't end up to trouble.
   erasmus: working with Ubuntu?
sailus: HAS_VIDEOBUF2_DMA_SG would effectively be a dependency to HAS_DMA, and maybe for other things if they're needed.
mchehab: anyway, can't discuss it... I have a report to finish
   <br> today
sailus: Either by videobuf2 or by that particular memop.
erasmus: hey guys who here can help me?
<br> can you give me a name?
mchehab: <u>erasmus</u>: send an email to the ML
erasmus: isn't there a guy here who works for hauppauge?
<br> I got help here a few years back
hverkuil: <u>erasmus</u>: no, they all left.
erasmus: mchehab you are channel founder
<br> can you tell me who might help me?
hverkuil: <u>erasmus</u>: he told you: send an email to the linux-media mailinglist.
<br> Several people with Hauppauge knowledge read that list.
   erasmus: which site?
<br> can you give me a link or something?
   hverkuil: https://www.linuxtv.org/lists.php
   erasmus: oh I've been there
<br> yeah I did the drivers and loaded the firmware
<br> I pasted my dmesg too in here
   pinchartl: <u>erasmus</u>: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=linux-media+mailing+list
erasmus: but Kaffeine doesn't see the device
<br> wow you guys are dicks
   pinchartl: mind your language please
   erasmus: dicks offends you?
<br> maybe you should grow one.
javier__: <u>erasmus</u>: this channel is used to coordinate the development for the media and v4l2 subsystems in the upstream kernel
<br> <u>erasmus</u>: if you can reproduce your issue using the upstream kernel, then as other told you the process is to report to the mailing list
erasmus: is #linuxtv a better choice?
javier__: if you are using a kernel from a Linux distribution, then you should contact your distro
erasmus: it's GalliumOS which is basically Ubuntu xenial
javier__: <u>erasmus</u>: so you should report to either GalliumOS or Ubuntu
erasmus: I get FATAL module bttv not found in /lib/modules
javier__: <u>erasmus</u>: the problem is that if you are using a vendor tree from a distro, is hard to know if they have more changes on top that are causing your issue
erasmus: well it doesn't help that the page I think I need from hauppaugh is missing
javier__: but if you can reproduce with upstream, then you can post to the mailing list explaining your problem and the relevant info
   erasmus: http://www.hauppauge.com/404.html
   <br> Page not found
<br> We’re sorry, we seem to have lost this page, but we don’t want to lose you.
javier__: <u>erasmus</u>: and I don't think that people will be eager to help you if you offend them
erasmus: I could tell it didn't matter what I said
javier__: anyway, I just explained how you should proceed. Good luck
   ***: erasmus has left "END702"
   hverkuil: Absolutely fascinating behavior.
pinchartl: just ignore them, they tend to leave
hverkuil: I know, it's just fascinating. I always makes me wonder what makes such people tick.
<br> 'I need help' 'You're a dick' 'Why don't you help me?' Weird...
javier__: I wonder if that approach ever worked for them?
hverkuil: Yeah, I foresee a very unhappy life.
sailus: <u>hverkuil</u>: Let me know your thoughts of the VB2 Kconfig (14.38 your time).
<br> I need to go now but I'll be back late(r) this evening.
   <br> Have a nice week-end!
-: mchehab is wandering if erasmus is some other known troll - I'm pretty sure I saw about the same behavior several times in the past on this channel
mchehab: btw, HVR-950q doesn't use bttv driver
hverkuil: I wondered the same thing.
<br> <u>sailus</u>: I probably missed some earlier discussion, but I'm not really should what you are trying to achieve.
ttomov: Hi, I wonder why there are no formats similar to MEDIA_BUS_FMT_SBGGR10_2X8_PADHI_LE - but for the other bayer patterns - GBRG, GRBG, RGGB. Nobody has ever used/needed them, or is there any other reason?
