tomba: the issue with the display not coming up if you boot without a display connected is not omap specific, it seems to be broken for a long time.
I suspect it might have been broken since 4.15 when a lot of changes where made, but perhaps it never worked. I tried going back to 4.14, but that was too old it seems for my debian distro.
I tried to trace what happens but I got totally confused by the code.

k1w1: correct. it's in the master branch of the media_tree, so it will be merged in the mainline kernel during the next merge window (which is expected to open next week or the week after)

@pinchartl thanks for the context. Are there any adjustments/controls that work with the IPU4 pipeline? Or am I SOL until mainline/libcamera support is added?
Also, Tesla is using this in their cars... maybe they can add the mainline support and make a PR ;-)
