This worked for me:

1) copy the vdr-0.72-LCDproc.04.04.01.diff to the folder where the 
"VDR"-folder is.
2) cd to this folder
3) patch -p0 <vdr-0.72-LCDproc.04.04.01.diff
4) cd VDR
5) make

BTW... since this patch seems to be "done", wouldn't it be nice to have 
it included in the official VDR? Klaus?
