can Mplayer play transport streams? I think it has to be demuxed beforde you 
can pipe ist to a mpeg2 decoder. In DVB/apps/mpegtools directory you can find 
some tools to do this. But the DVB driver should do the demuxing, too. What 
about the /dev/ost/demux* devices?

I do not really know the Nova card, but the Siemens DVB-S has to be set to 
data mode, before any mpeg2 data could been grabbed. Else only the actual 
programme is shown on TV-Out.
