[linux-dvb] DVB-s Satellite Internet help needed.
Hardware: I have a Hauppauge WinTV DVB-s rev2.1 card
and also a PixelView Play TV pro (Analogue BT878 TV
Tuner card with Samsung tuner)
The DVB-s card works under Windows and I have all the
setting like IP, MAC address, Frequency, PIDs. I am in
Australia and the ISPs here use the MAC address not a
proxy.
I am using Red Hat 7.3 and soon 8.0 with kernel
2.4.18. I am using siemens_dvb-0.9.4 series drivers.
I want to get Satellite Internet going but I don't
know how to do it under Linux.
The outgoing connection is via ppp0, or ppp1, or ppp2
(Red Hat makes each Internet account use a different
Interface for some unknown reason and I don't know how
to make them all just use ppp0)
These are the steps I have done so far:
cd /usr/src; ln -s linux-2.4 linux
cd /usr/src/linux; make mrproper
After copying the correct config file for the kernel
'cp configs/kernel-2.4.3-athlon.config .config'
cd /usr/src/DVB/driver
I built the drivers using the instructions in the
README and INSTALL files via 'make' and then 'make
insmod'.
There does not seem to be any device for the DVB-s
card like /dev/dvb0 or similar as in the HOWTO
How do I setup the device and other software/utils and
routing to make the Internet connection work ?
Thanks very much for any help I have been reading
trying at this for ages. When I get this going I will
note ALL the steps and write or submit them to Red Hat
and for a HOWTO.
