xawtv has no support (yet?) for tuning DVB cards. Don't know if Gerd is 
working on something like this.

Right now you have to use an extern application like czap to tune your 
card in an second console, (and czap can directly use your generated 
channel list after you moved it to ~/.czap/channels.conf...)

see above, you have to use czap again to tune to the next channel. But I 
suppose for you VDR is much more convinient to use, szap/tzap/tzap were 
written as tiny test programs to debug your installation.
