[linux-dvb] decoder & frontend ioctls

Hi, 

can someone explain why DVB ApiV3 is not providing IOCTL's for getting 
e.g.

the bitrate of the stream, 
resolution ect. ?

some drivers do a /proc/bitstream interface or provide non dvbapi IOCTL's for this.

so, if someone's going to use this info everything must be checked at user/application space.

it would be more satisfied if i would have an IOCTL with -ENOSUP or -EINVAL instead of having a 
application which is capable to run on different systems and program everything especially for each 
system.
