Instead of running MPlayer-1.0_pre5, let me suggest MPlayer from cvs. 
That way you can patch mplayer.c for vdr's slave mode and run the 
MPlayer plugin.  CVS is working smooth.  You will also want the cvs of 
ffmpeg.
