2 GB, much to little space for my mind, 4 GB is minimum for a single movie.

There was kdat (you might still find it somewhere in the net, but it has no 
maintainer).

It kept a archive with the files for any tape you wrote with it on hard disk 
and you had simply to select what file you need and choose the action 
(save/restore). It worked for my OnStream drive (but has some bugs).

Anyway, it's to slow for me - as i mentioned i use now dvbackup (the price 
for a 15GB tape (without compression as it makes no sense for MPEG) is only 
15,- DM. But it's probably not comfortable enough for you ;-)
