Is some time ago i have exact the same problem...
At this time it wasn´t able to set the DMA-Parameter by using HDPARM.

A frined logged into my machine (via SSH) and serch the problem. Then he
located the file called "hdparm" and made the settings for the harddrives in
this file - and - then it works...
Don´t know why - but - realy same problem...
