I had once the some problem, but it was caused by a bug in cdrecord (Old
version give an exit level of "0"(=Everything OK) when interrupted in
the 10 Seconds count-down. Joerg fixed it after i wrote a a "bit" upset
mail about this bug in cdrecord.)
I undeleted the removed image-file with Midnight-Commander. It needed
more than 1 day to undelete this single 660MB file (With 1GB-RAM and
2xPIII-933Mhz). I don't see a good changes for recovering a whole
filesystem. IF it would work it would need months to recover all files.

Real Programmers consider "what you see is what you get" to be just as
bad a concept in Text Editors as it is in women. No, the Real Programmer
wants a "you asked for it, you got it" text editor -- complicated,
cryptic, powerful, unforgiving, dangerous.
