[vdr] Problems with VDR, a Nexus-S and a Nova-t pci

Hi,

I recently acquired a Hauppauge Nexus-S, I already owned a Hauppauge
Nova-t, therefore, I thought i'd make an attempt at trying to use VDR.
My current setup involves just using the Nexus-S card for its TV out and
the Nova-t for the channels.
After a few hours of trying to use VDR, all I was getting on the TV out
was the vdr display at the bottom of the screen whenever I switched
channels, yet I got no actual channel displayed.
I eventually managed to resolve the situation, by first running dvbstream
and streaming something to disk for a few seconds and then stopping
it. Then I started VDR and it seemed to be working properly, I got
channels, I could swtich channels, etc.
Therefore, my questions are:

Has anyone else experienced similar behaviour?
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Any help and comments will be greatly appreciated.
