want to see the mplayer OSD ? 
- be sure not using slave mode
- be sure every video will played with -vop expand=x:x:x:x:1 (four values and 
the fifth value has to be on), look at the mplayer.sh
- be sure you have fonts installed (ttf or the one from mplayerhq, depends on 
how you have compiled) 

Recompile should not be necessary
