I think the best way is to run ntpdate once and then start xntpd _before_
vdr starts, provided you have an NTP server within network reach (e.g. a
public one). ntpdate will set the clock hard if needed but if you do it
regularly, and set the hwclock before shutdown (what most distros do anyway
if you run xntpd), the drift will become very small. Here as well adjtime()
is used. No other time exchange protocol does that AFAIK.
