The timeout is 30 (thirty!) seconds - I hardly think that that's too little.
But if you would like to try a longer one, just change
#define MAXBROKENTIMEOUT 30 // seconds
in VDR/device.c accordingly.
I'm afraid I have no idea why it doesn't work, though. I have three DVB-S cards
in my system and they record just fine.
