I think 1.3 was majorly popular because it was supported by programs like 
MultiDec -- but this has long been resolved in more recent versions :) In a 
Linux setup the Rev shouldn't make much difference in terms of simple 
compatibility - thx to the developers keeping up with all the different 
revisions.
