Two suggestions:
- Attach a copy of the List Etiquette to the Listar subscription
  confirmation message.
- Add a link to the mailing list archive to the mailing list footer, e.g.
  "Before posting questions to the list, please search the mailing list
   archive at http://linuxtv.org/mailinglists/vdr/";

This might reduce the "noise" on the list somewhat. ;-)
