In fact I am using DVB-S.

To answer another question I have a 2.4m dish receiving c-band signals. 
I live in the tropics and we are in the middle of our rainy season and
we have severe tropical thunder storms.

This could well be true. (I don't know enough to say).  I think that the
DVB signal has enough error correction etc that the driver should know
when a packet is in error?
