[vdr] Detection of network-cable

Hi again.

A little bit offtopic, but i'm interested, if it is possible to detect the
status of the network-connection. I ask, because it takes a lot of time to
wait for the dhcp-client if there is no network connection present.

Is it possible to parse a file in /proc or /dev (i'm using devfs and a
kernel 2.4.20) to see, if there is a network cable (or better: a network
link) available? If it is possible, i would only start the dhcp client, if
there is a network available.
